Google reviews usually go missing because Google's automated spam filters held or removed them, because they were taken down for breaking content policies, or because the Business Profile is new, unverified or suspended. A review can also be delayed, deleted by its author or posted on a duplicate listing. Owners cannot restore filtered reviews, but they can fix profile issues.
- Spam filters: Google's systems may block reviews that look suspicious, for example many reviews arriving at once.
- Policy removals: reviews with conflicts of interest, off-topic content or prohibited language can be removed at any time, even long after posting.
- Profile status: new, unverified or suspended profiles may not display reviews normally.
- Publication delays: some reviews take a while to appear while they are checked.
- Author actions: the reviewer edited or deleted the review, or their account was removed.
- Duplicate listings: the customer reviewed a different listing for the same business.
Can you get a missing review back?
Generally, no. Google does not offer owners a way to reinstate a review that its systems filtered. If you believe genuine reviews are being removed, check that your profile is verified and accurate, then contact Google Business Profile support with specific examples. The customer can also check their own review from their Google account, and post again later in their own words.
How to avoid reviews being filtered
Ask for reviews steadily instead of in big one-off campaigns, and never offer incentives. Google discourages review stations or kiosks at your premises, so let customers review from their own phones and accounts. Reviews from staff, relatives or anyone with a conflict of interest are more likely to be removed, and they can put your genuine reviews under more scrutiny.
Check for duplicate listings
If customers say they reviewed you but you cannot see it, search Google Maps for your business name and address. A duplicate or outdated listing may be collecting reviews. You can ask Google Business Profile support to merge or remove duplicates, although reviews do not always transfer, so it is worth fixing this as early as possible.
